Physiology:
- In this pose the head comes below the heart which stimulates pressure receptors in the heart and creates autonomic nervous system (ANS) balance or awareness.
- Increased blood flow to the brain revitalizes the body and mind, improves concentration and reduces emotional disturbances.
- Fixing of upper and lower limb muscles in the constant contracted position reduces the peripheral blood circulation which increases central circulation-the blood flow towards the internal organs, it is good for gastrointestinal tract or system and helps in tissue regeneration of abdomen and pelvis.
- Fixation of all accessory muscles forces diaphragmatic breathing or deep breathing which helps in shallow breathing or paradoxical breathing.
- Reduces the pelvic pressure in the abdomen below the naval hence improves functioning of pelvic organs; strength of uterus and menstrual cycles in females, voluntary control of ejaculation process and production of sperms.
- It improves the secretion of hormones from endocrine glands such as thyroid, pancreas and gonads.
